Driver's Side Wiper Blade Contacts A-Pillar

MODELS:

NOTE: 

THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE OCT. 15, 1996 (MDH 1015XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Driver's side wiper blade contacts A-Pillar or a popping sound can be heard when the driver's side wiper blade reaches its full upper wipe position
(farthest to the left) during high speed wiper operation.

DIAGNOSIS:

While operating the windshield wipers on the high speed setting with a wet windshield, listen for a popping or clicking noise when the wiper blades
reach their full upper wipe position (driver's wiper blade is nearest the A-Pillar). If the driver's side wiper blade makes a popping or clicking noise at the
full upper wipe position, perform the following Repair Procedure.

NOTE: 

IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS TO DUPLICATE THE CUSTOMER'S COMPLAINT.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves replacing the wiper blades with a blade that has a revised air deflector.

1.

Turn the wiper switch to the low speed position then, turn the ignition switch to the ON position. By turning the ignition switch to the ON and OFF
positions, cycle the wiper blades to a convenient working location on the windshield.

2.

Lift the wiper arm to raise the wiper blade and element off the windshield glass.

3.

Push the release tab under the arm tip and slide the blade away from the tip towards the pivot end of the arm (Figure 1).

4.

Slide the new blades (p/n 55076910AA) retainer into the U-shaped formation on the tip of the wiper arm until the release tab snaps into its locked
position.

5.

Perform steps 2 through 4 for the other wiper blade.
