NOTE:
This recall applies only to the above vehicles equipped with an 8.0L engine ("W" in the 8th VIN position), automatic transmission and a California
emission control system (sales code NAE) built through October 28, 1999 (MDH 1028XX).
IMPORTANT:
Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer vehicle inventory. Dealers should complete this repair on these vehicles before retail delivery.
Dealers should also perform this repair on vehicles in for service. Involved vehicles can be determined by using the DIAL VIP System.
Subject
The On-Board Diagnostic (ORD) system on about 500 of the above vehicles will not detect a catalyst failure as required by California Emissions
Regulations.
Repair
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) must be reprogrammed (flashed).
Parts Information
Due to the small number of vehicles involved in this recall and the likelihood that the required labels are already in your parts inventory, no labels will be
distributed initially. The following labels may be ordered as needed.
Each vehicle requires application of the labels as shown:
Completion Reporting and Reimbursement
Claims for vehicles which have been serviced must be submitted on the DIAL System. Claims submitted will be used by DaimlerChrysler to record recall
service completions and provide dealer payments.
Use one of the labor operation numbers and time allowances as shown:
PCM Update Previously Performed Reprogram Powertrain Control Module Add the cost of the labels plus applicable dealer allowance to your claim.
