RAM 2500 Truck 4WD V8-5.9L VIN Z LDC (1998)
Rear Axle - 248 or 267RBI
CAUTION: Raise both rear wheels off the surface whenever a rear axle is being serviced.
REMOVAL
1. Remove the axle shaft flange bolts.
2. Slide the axle shaft out from the axle tube.
INSTALLATION
1. Clean the gasket contact surface area on the flange with an appropriate solvent. Install a new flange gasket and slide the axle shaft into the tube.
2. Install the bolts and tighten to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.).
Rear Axle - 286RBI
CAUTION: Raise both rear wheels off the surface whenever a rear axle is being serviced.
REMOVAL
1. Remove the axle shaft flange bolts.
2. Slide the axle shaft out from the axle tube.
INSTALLATION
1. Clean the gasket contact surface area on the flange with an appropriate solvent. Install a new flange gasket and slide the axle shaft into the tube.
2. Install the bolts and tighten to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.).
