Thermal Limiter Switch: Service and Repair
NOTE: After removing the thermal limiter switch, always replace it with a new unit. The refrigerant system can remain fully-charged during thermal
limiter switch replacement.
REMOVAL
1. Unplug the wire harness connectors from the thermal limiter switch.
2. Remove the screw that secures the switch clamp to the side of the compressor.
3. Pry the switch from the socket in the compressor case with a screwdriver.
CLEANING
Remove the silicone filler from the socket in the compressor case and thoroughly clean the socket with thinner.
INSTALLATION
1. Place the new thermal limiter switch on a working surface so that the flat copper surface faces upward.
2. Apply RTV silicone sealant to the flat copper surface of the switch, until the surface is evenly covered. Apply the silicone only from the tube, and
not by hand.
3. Install the thermal limiter switch into the compressor case socket. Install the switch clamp and screw. Tighten the screw to 1.8 N.m (17 in. lbs.).
4. Plug in the switch wire harness connectors.
