Blower Motor Relay: Description and Operation

BLOWER MOTOR RELAY

Front
The front blower motor electrical circuit uses a high speed blower motor relay. The high speed blower motor relay is a International Standards
Organization (ISO)-type relay The relay is a electromechanical device that switches battery current from a fuse in the Power Distribution Center to
the blower motor, bypassing the remainder of the blower motor feed circuit.

The relay is energized when the relay coil is provided a voltage signal by the blower motor switch. When the relay is de-energized, fused ignition-
switched battery current is fed from the front blower motor switch to the blower motor resistor and through the normally closed circuit of the relay
to control the blower motor speed.

The relay is located in the engine compartment on the inboard side of the heater-A/C housing and near the dash panel. The relay is installed in a
connector in the blower motor wire harness. The connector includes a molded-in plastic retainer that snaps into a hole in the side of the heater-A/C
housing. The relay cannot be repaired and, if faulty or damaged, it must be replaced.

Rear
The rear heater-only or heater-A/C blower motor electrical circuit uses a blower motor relay. The rear blower motor relay is a International
Standards Organization (ISO)-type relay. The relay is a electro-mechanical device that switches battery current from a fuse in the Power
Distribution Center to the blower motor switch when the ignition switch is in the On position. 

The rear blower motor relay is located under the instrument panel near the right end of the instrument cluster. The relay is taped to the instrument
panel wire harness. The relay cannot be repaired and, if faulty or damaged, it must be replaced.
