Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair
Rear
REMOVAL
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the nut and outer retainer from the upper end of the shock absorber.
3. Remove the bracket (upper) bolt and the inner retainer from the frame rail.
4. Remove the nut and bolt at the lower end of the shock absorber.
5. Remove the shock absorber from the vehicle. If necessary, remove the spacer tube from the upper shock absorber eye.
INSTALLATION
1. Position the lower end of the shock absorber in the axle tube bracket. Install the lower bolt and the retaining nut. Tighten the nut finger-tight.
2. Rotate the shock absorber upward by pivoting it on the lower bolt.
3. If removed, insert the spacer tube in the upper shock absorber eye.
4. Position the upper end of the shock absorber at the frame rail bracket. Install the inner retainer and the upper bolt.
5. Install the outer retainer and the nut on the upper bolt.
6. Tighten the shock absorber upper and lower retaining nuts to 82 Nm (60 ft. lbs.).
7. Raise the vehicle, remove the supports and lower the vehicle to the surface.
