Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair
Installation

Spicer Model 44 Front Axle

1. Position steering knuckle on ball studs, then install lower ball stud nut and tighten to specifications. Install new cotter pin.
2. Install upper ball stud nut and tighten to specifications, then install new cotter pin.
3. Install hub bearing and axle shaft as outlined under "Axle Shaft, Replace," then attach drag link or tie rod to steering knuckle arm.
4. Install ABS sensor wire and bracket.

Spicer Model 60 Front Axle

1. Position steering knuckle on ball studs, then install lower ball stud nut and initially torque to 35 ft-lbs. Do not install cotter pin.
2. Install upper ball stud nut and tighten to specifications, then install new cotter pin.
3. Torque lower ball stud nut to 140-160 ft-lbs. and install new cotter pin, then install hub bearing and axle shaft as outlined under "Axle Shaft,

Replace."

4. Connect drag link or tie rod to steering knuckle arm, then install ABS sensor wire and bracket.
