Front Suspension - Clunking Noise
NO: 02-11-97
GROUP: Suspension
DATE: Nov. 28, 1997
SUBJECT:
Clunking Noise In Front Suspension
MODELS:
1995 - 1997 (AB) Ram Van
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
A clunking noise can be heard in the front suspension while driving on rough roads.
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect both left and right front shock absorber bushings for deterioration. If the bushings are deteriorated, perform Repair Procedure A.
Inspect both left and right front upper coil spring isolators to ensure that the isolator is properly seated. Closely examine the outboard side of the upper
coil spring pocket. A properly seated isolator should encapsulate the complete outboard side of the upper portion of the coil spring. If the isolator
appears to be dislocated from the upper portion of the coil spring, perform Repair Procedure B.
Further diagnosis of the front suspension is required if the front shock absorber bushings are not deteriorated and/or front coil spring isolators appear to
be in their proper location. Refer to the appropriate Service Manual, Group 02, for additional information.
