Oil Pressure Warning Lamp/Indicator: Testing and Inspection
The diagnosis found here addresses an inoperative low oil pressure warning lamp condition. If the problem being diagnosed is related to lamp accuracy,
be certain to confirm that the problem is with the lamp and not with the engine oiling system. The actual engine oil pressure should be checked with a
test gauge before you proceed with lamp diagnosis.
Oil Pressure Switch/Sending Unit
1. Turn the ignition switch to the position. Unplug the oil pressure sending unit wire harness connector. Install a jumper wire between the oil
pressure switch sense circuit cavity of the sending unit wire harness connector and a good ground. The lamp should light. Remove the jumper wire
and the lamp should go off. If OK, replace the faulty sending unit. If not OK, go to Step 2.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the Off position Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable Remove the instrument cluster bezel and the cluster
assembly Unplug the cluster printed circuit wire harness connector 2.
3. Probe the oil pressure switch sense circuit cavity of the printed circuit wire harness connector 2 and check for continuity to a good ground. There
should be no continuity. If OK, go to Step 4. If no OK, repair the short circuit as required.
4. Check for continuity between the oil pressure switch sense circuit cavities of the printed circuit wire harness connector 2 and the sending unit wire
harness connector. There should be continuity. If OK replace the faulty bulb. If not OK, repair the open circuit as required.
