Blower Motor: Description and Operation
System Operation

BLOWER MOTOR

Front
The front blower motor and blower wheel are located in the blower housing. The blower housing is attached to the right side of the dash panel in
the engine compartment, inboard of the heater-A/C recirculating unit and under the heater-A/C housing. The blower motor controls the velocity of
air flowing through the heater-A/C housing by spinning a squirrel cage-type blower wheel within the blower housing at the selected speed. The
blower motor and wheel can be serviced from the engine compartment.

The blower motor will only operate when the ignition switch is in the On position and, on heater-A/C models, when the heater-A/C mode control
switch is in any position except Off. The blower motor receives a ground feed at all times. The blower motor battery feed circuit is protected by a
fuse in the fuseblock module. Blower motor speed is controlled by regulating the battery feed through the blower motor switch, the blower motor
resistor, and the high speed blower motor relay.

The blower motor and blower wheel cannot be repaired and, if faulty or damaged, they must be replaced. The blower motor and blower wheel are
each serviced separately

Rear
The rear heater-only blower motor and fan are mounted inside the rear heater housing on the floor behind the driver seat. The rear heater-A/C
blower motor and blower wheel are mounted inside a blower housing on the floor behind the driver seat. The blower motor controls the velocity of
air flowing through the rear heater or rear heater-A/C housing by spinning a blade-type fan (heater-only) or squirrel cage-type blower wheel
(heater-A/C) within the housing at the selected speed. Both blower motors can be serviced from the passenger compartment.

The blower motor receives a ground feed at all times. The blower motor battery feed circuit is protected by a fuse in the fuseblock module, and is
energized by a rear heater-A/C relay when the ignition switch is in the On position. Blower motor speed is controlled by regulating the battery feed
through the blower motor switch and the blower motor resistor.

The blower motor and blower wheel or fan cannot be repaired and, if faulty or damaged, they must be replaced. The blower motor, blower wheel,
and blower fan are each serviced separately.
