Blower Motor Resistor: Description and Operation
BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR
Front
The front heater or heater-A/C blower motor resistor is mounted in the engine compartment on the inboard side of the right heater-A/C housing
near the radiator support panel. It is secured to the side of the housing with screws, and is connected to the blower motor wire harness.
The resistor has multiple resistor wires, each of which reduce the current flow to the blower motor, to change the blower motor speed. The blower
motor switch directs the electrical current through the correct resistor wire to obtain the selected blower motor speed.
The blower motor resistor cannot be repaired and, if faulty or damaged, it must be replaced.
Rear
The rear heater-only blower motor resistor is integral to the rear blower motor. The rear heater-A/C blower motor resistor is mounted inside the
rear blower motor housing, on the floor behind the driver seat. On rear heater-A/C models, the resistor can be accessed by removing the rear
blower motor assembly.
The resistors have multiple resistor wires, each of which reduce the current flow to the blower motor, to change the blower motor speed. The rear
blower motor switch directs the electrical current through the correct resistor wire to obtain the selected blower motor speed.
The blower motor resistors cannot be repaired and, if faulty or damaged, they must be replaced. The rear heater-only blower motor resistor is
serviced only as a unit with the rear blower motor.
