Seat Belt Reminder Lamp: Testing and Inspection
Seat Belt Reminder Lamp Testing

The diagnosis found here addresses an inoperative seat belt reminder lamp condition. If the lamp comes on and stays on, refer to Instrument Panel,
Gauges and Warning Indicators/Audible Warning Device/Chime/Buzzer Warning Systems for diagnosis. If no warning system problem is found, the
following procedure will help locate a short or open in the lamp circuit. 

1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Remove the instrument cluster bezel. Unplug the message center wire harness connector. Check

for continuity between the ground circuit cavity of the message center wire harness connector and a good ground. There should be continuity If
OK, plug the message center wire harness connector back into the message center and go to Step 2. If not OK, repair the open circuit as required.

2. Connect the battery negative cable. Install a jumper wire between a 12-volt battery feed source and the seat belt lamp driver circuit cavity of the

message center wire harness connector. The lamp should light. If OK, go to Step 3. If not OK, replace the faulty bulb.

3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Unplug the chime/buzzer module from its wire harness connector. Unplug the message center

wire harness connector. Check for continuity between the seat belt lamp driver circuit cavity of the message center wire harness connector and a
good ground. There should be no continuity If OK, go to Step 4. If not OK, repair the short circuit as required.

4. Check for continuity between the seat belt lamp driver circuit cavities of the message center wire harness connector and the chime/buzzer module

wire harness connector. There should be continuity If not OK, repair the open circuit as required.
