Universal Joint: Removal and Replacement
NOTE: Single cardan universal joint components are not serviceable. If worn or leaking, they must be replaced as a unit.
REMOVAL
1. Scribe reference marks on the propeller shaft yokes, axle yoke, and transmission yoke before removal or component service. This will ensure
correct phasing and eliminate possible vibration.
2. Remove the propeller shaft.
3. Using a soft drift, tap the outside of the bearing assembly to loosen snap ring.
4. Remove snap rings from both sides of yoke.
5. Set the yoke in an arbor press or vise with a large socket beneath it. If joint is a replacement with a lube fitting position the yoke with the lube
fitting pointing up. Place a smaller socket on the upper bearing assembly and press it through to release the lower bearing assembly.
