NOTE:
THIS INFORMATION APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 24 VALVE CUMMINS DIESEL ENGINES.
DISCUSSION:
1998 24 valve diesel engines were built with an incorrect dipstick calibration. This incorrect marking causes an overfilled condition of approximately
1-1/2 quarts when at the top end of the safe zone on the dipstick.
This overfill condition is not damaging to the engine but can cause the following:
Unusual engine noises.
Potential low power complaints.
Possible low oil pressure concerns due to oil aeration while driving on off-road terrain.

NOTE:
THE CUMMINS PART NUMBER IS STAMPED ON THE DIPSTICK. THE INCORRECT CUMMINS P/N IS 3944594.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing the dipstick with a revised part and adjusting the oil level.
1.
Remove and discard the engine oil dipstick.
2.
Install dipstick p/n 05014562AA.
3.
Adjust the oil level to the proper height.
