Insert the female connector of the new jumper wire into cavity # 30 of the fuel heater relay (Figure 2). Make sure that the terminal is locked into
position by gently pulling on the wire.
NOTE:
The terminal crimp must face toward the nearest edge of the PDC when properly installed.
11.
Install the fuel heater relay rear circuit holder.
12.
Install the upper part of the PDC onto the lower PDC cover. Make sure that the six locking tabs are engaged and that no wires have been pinched
between the PDC and the lower cover.
13.
Install the two (2) PDC to inner fender fasteners and tighten securely.
14.
Install the new 40 amp cartridge fuse into PDC cavity # 7 (Figure 2).
15.
Install the fuel heater relay (Figure 2).
16.
Attach the engine in-line bolt-down connector to the inside of the PDC (Figure 2). The connector will click" when the connection is completely
bolted down.
17.
Install the PDC cover.
18.
Connect the negative battery cable to both batteries.
19.
Disconnect the gray two-wire fuel heater system connector (located near the base of the fuel filter assembly).
20.
Turn the ignition key to the RUN position and verify that one of the fuel heater connector terminals has battery voltage.
NOTE:
If there is no battery voltage at either fuel heater connector terminal, refer to the proper Powertrain Diagnostic Procedure manual to diagnose and
repair the problem.
21.
Connect the fuel heater electrical connector.

This service requirement applies only to 1998 model year Dodge Ram (BRIBE) trucks equipped with a Cummins diesel engine ("D" in the 8th VIN
Position) built through:

December 12, 1997 (MDH 121216) at the St. Louis North Assembly Plant ("J" in the 11th VIN Position)
^
December 11, 1997 (MDH 121113) at the Saltillo Assembly Plant ("G" in the 11th VIN Position)
^
December 13, 1997 (MDH 121310) at the Lago Alberto Assembly Plant ("M" in the 11th VIN Position)
^
The diesel fuel heater wiring circuit may be missing from the power distribution center (PDC) on the above listed vehicles which will cause the fuel
heater to be inoperative. To correct this condition, a PDC wiring jumper and cartridge fuse must be installed.

Effective immediately all repairs on involved vehicles are to be performed according to this Customer Satisfaction Notification. The Labor Operation
Number for Service Action # 97-68 is being canceled.

Dealers are encouraged to consider alternative scheduling and servicing approaches for this recall. This repair does not require hoists or other full
service facility special equipment and is a CHRYSLER MOBILE SERVICE approved repair.
Parts Packages:

Each involved dealer, to whom vehicles in this notification were invoiced, will receive enough Fuel Heater Relay Wiring Jumper Packages to service
about 50% of those vehicles.
