Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair

REMOVAL 

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove wheel and tire assembly. Remove the brake caliper.
3. Remove the wheel hub and bearing assembly from the spindle. 
4. Remove the cotter pin and nut from the tie-rod end and disconnect tie rod.
5. Remove the cotter pins and nuts from the upper and lower ball studs. Separate upper ball stud from knuckle with remover MD-990635, or

equivalent. Separate lower ball stud with remover C-4150A, or equivalent and remove knuckle.

INSTALLATION 

1. Position knuckle on ball studs and install ball stud nuts.
2. Tighten upper ball stud nut to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.) and install cotter pin.
3. Tighten lower ball stud nut to:

Light duty: 129 Nm (95 ft. lbs.)

Heavy duty: 149 Nm (110 ft. lbs.) 

4. Install cotter pin.
5. Install the brake rotor hub and bearing assembly on spindle.
6. Install the brake caliper.
7. Install wheel and tire assembly.
8. Remove support and lower vehicle.
