Camshaft: Service and Repair
Removal and Installation
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
2. Drain cooling system.
3. Remove the following parts:
-
Fan Shroud
-
Radiator
-
A/C Condenser (if equipped)
-
Intercooler
-
Auxiliary Transmission Cooler
-
Upper Radiator Support
-
EGR Tube
-
Name Plate
-
Valve covers
-
Rocker lever assemblies
-
Push rods
-
Drive belt
-
Fan hub assembly
-
Vibration damper
-
Gear housing cover
-
Lift pump
Holding Tappets In Place
4. Insert the dowels through the push tube holes and into the top of each tappet. When properly installed, the dowels can be used to pull the tappets
up.
5. Pull the tappets up and wrap a rubber band around the top of the dowel rods. This will prevent the tappets from dropping down.
Align Crankshaft To Camshaft
6. Rotate the crankshaft to align the crankshaft to camshaft timing marks.
