Audible Warning Device: Testing and Inspection
Buzzer Module

The content of this article reflects changes called for in TSB 26-01-97.

Buzzer Module

1. Check the fuse(s) in the fuseblock module. If OK, go to 2. If not OK, replace faulty fuse(s).

2. Check for battery voltage at the hot at all times fuse in the fuseblock module. If OK, go to 3. If not OK, repair the open circuit from the Power

Distribution Center as required.

3. Turn the ignition switch to the On position. Check for battery voltage at the hot in run and start fuse in the fuseblock module. If OK, go to 4. If

not OK, repair the open circuit to the ignition sswitchas required.

4. Turn the ignition switch to the Off position. Replace the buzzer module with a known good unit and test it's operation. If OK, discard the faulty

buzzer module. If not OK, remove the test buzzer module and to go 5.

5. Check for battery voltage at the fused B(+) circuit cavity of the buzzer module receptacle in the fuseblock module. If OK, go to 6. If not OK,

repair the open circuit to the fuseblock module fuse as required.

6. Turn the ignition switch to the On position. Check for battery voltage at the fused ignition switch output circuit cavity of the buzzer module

receptacle in the fuseblock module. If OK, go to 7. If not OK, repair the open circuit to the fuseblock module fuse as required.

7. Turn the ignition switch to the Off position. Check for continuity between the ground circuit cavity of the buzzer module receptacle in the

fuseblock module and a good ground. There should be continuity. If OK, go to the diagnosis for the switch related to the buzzer malfunction. If
not OK, repair the open circuit to ground as required.

Headlamp Switch

STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN, OR INSTRUMENT PANEL COMPONENT DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. FAILURE TO
TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL

1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Remove the headlamp switch from the instrument panel.  See: Lighting and

Horns/Headlamp/Headlamp Switch/Service and Repair
Unplug the headlamp switch wire harness connectors. Open the driver door. Check for continuity between the left front door jamb switch sense
circuit cavity of the headlamp switch wire harness connector and a good ground There should be continuity with the driver door open and no
continuity with the driver door closed. If OK go to (2). If not OK repair the circuit to the driver door jamb switch as required. 

2. Unplug the buzzer module from the fuseblock module. Check for continuity between the key-in ignition switch sense circuit cavities of the

headlamp switch wire harness connector and the buzzer module receptacle in the fuseblock module. There should be continuity. If OK go to
(3). If not OK repair the open circuit to the buzzer module as required.

3. Check for continuity between the left front door jamb switch sense circuit and the key-in ignition switch sense circuit terminals of the

headlamp switch. There should be no continuity with the switch in the Off position and continuity with the switch in the park or headlamps On
position. If not OK replace the faulty headlamp switch.

Key-In Ignition Switch

WARNING: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIRBAGS, REFER TO RESTRAINTS SYSTEMS / AIR BAG SYSTEMS BEFORE
ATTEMPTING ANY STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN, OR INSTRUMENT PANEL COMPONENT DIAGNOSIS OR
SERVICE. FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND
