Steering Damper: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Scribe a location mark on the tie rod for the bracket at each end of the bracket.
3. Remove damper nut and bolt from the tie rod bracket.
4. Remove the U-bolt nuts from the tie rod bracket.
5. Remove the bracket from the tie rod.

INSTALLATION

1. Position the bracket on the tie rod. Align the location marks with the bracket.
2. Install the U-bolts and nuts finger tight.
3. Measure with a tape from the right grease fitting of the tie rod to the left side of the bracket. This measurement should be 832 mm (32.75 inch).
4. Tighten the U-bolt nuts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the damper to the bracket and tighten the nut to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.).
6. Remove support and lower the vehicle.
