RAM 3500 Truck 4WD V8-360 5.9L VIN 5 Magnum (1998)

Eight (8) bolts on Ram extended cab (BE) models (Figure 2).
IMPORTANT:
To prevent bolt breakage, loosen the bolts using a rachet or breaker bar. Do NOT use an impact wrench.

If a bolt is broken or breaks during removal, remove it using the following procedure:
A.
Raise the cab slightly from the frame on the affected side using a tall, adjustable jack stand. Locate the jack stand along the rocker panel
pinch weld. Use care to not damage the cab sheet metal.
B.
Remove the upper isolator from the broken bolt location(s).
C.
Center punch and drill a hole in the broken bolt and then use a screw extractor, such as Snap-On PN SR40K, to remove the bolt from the
body tapping plate.
D.
Reinstall the upper isolator(s).
E.
Lower the body back onto the frame.
F.
Repeat Steps A - E for any broken bolts on the other side, if necessary.
4.
Install the new passenger cab and radiator core support mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 60 ft-lbs (80 N.m).
5.
Lower the vehicle.

Through June 11, 1998 (MDH 040300 Through 061106).

The passenger cab and radiator core support mounting bolts on the above listed vehicles, may have been improperly manufactured. To correct this
condition, the cab and core support mounting bolts must be replaced.
Parts Packages:

Each involved dealer, to whom vehicles in the recall were invoiced, will receive enough Bolt Packages to service about 25% of those vehicles.
