Safety Recall # 783 -- Front Outer Seat Belt Buckles

This service requirement applies only to 1998 model year Dodge Ram Club Cab and Quad Cab (BE) trucks built at the Saltillo Assembly Plant ("G"
in the 11th VIN Position) from April 6, 1998 through April 17, 1998 (MDH 040606 through 041712).

The front outer seat belt buckle assemblies on the above listed vehicles, may not have been properly manufactured. To correct this condition, the
front outer seat belt buckles must be replaced.

Dealers are encouraged to consider alternative scheduling and servicing approaches for this recall. This repair does not require hoists or other full
service facility special equipment and is a CHRYSLER MOBILE SERVICE approved repair.
Parts Packages:

Two (2) unique part packages are required for this recall depending upon the interior color of the vehicle. Each involved dealer, to whom vehicles in
the recall were invoiced, will receive enough Seat Belt Buckle Packages to service 100% of those vehicles.
Dealers should determine which parts package is required for each vehicle at the time appointments are scheduled to assure that the correct parts
package is available when the customer arrives. Refer to the Parts section for details.

SAFETY RECALL TO REPLACE YOUR VEHICLE'S FRONT OUTER SEAT BELT BUCKLES
Dear Ram Truck Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Chrysler Corporation has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1998 Dodge Ram Club Cab and Quad Cab trucks.
The problem is...
The front seat outer seat belt buckles on your Ram truck (identified on the enclosed form), may not have been properly manufactured. This will increase
the risk of injury to a belted occupant in these seating positions under certain accident conditions.
What Chrysler and your dealer will do...
Chrysler will repair your Ram truck free of charge (parts and labor). To do this, your dealer will replace the front seat outer seat belt buckle assemblies.
The work will take about 1/2 hour to complete. However, additional time may be necessary depending on how dealer appointments are scheduled and
processed.
What you must do to ensure your safety...

Simply contact your dealer right away to schedule a service appointment. Ask the dealer to hold the parts for your vehicle or to order them before
your appointment.

Bring the enclosed Owner Notification Form with you to your dealer. It explains the required service to the dealer.
