Steering Gear - Installation
INSTALLATION
NOTE: The steering gear on the 4500 AND 5500 vehicles are not internally serviceable.
1. Position the steering gear to the frame rail and install the three mounting bolts (2). Tighten the mounting bolts to 268 Nm (198 ft. lbs.).
2. Align steering coupler (1) on gear shaft (2). Install pinch bolt and tighten to 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.) torque.
3. Connect fluid hoses to steering gear See: Power Steering/Power Steering Line/Hose/Service and Repair/Power Steering Hose - Installation ,
tighten the lines to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).
NOTE: Care is to be taken to assure the steering gear does not travel more than 25 degrees off center, at the output shaft in either direction,
prior to setting of the poppet valves. This is critical during the installation of the pitman arm. Failure to do this will result in the
