Vacuum Brake Booster: Service and Repair
Vacuum Booster Replacement
1. Disconnect harness wires from differential switch on combination valve and from RWAL valve.
1. Disconnect brake line from combination valve to front brakes, or ABS valve.
3. Disconnect brake line from RWAL valve to rear brakes.
4. Remove nuts attaching master cylinder and valves to power brake booster unit studs, then remove master cylinder and valves as an assembly.
5. Disconnect vacuum hose at booster check valve.
6. Remove knee bolster for access to brake pedal, then remove clip and washer securing booster push rod to brake pedal.
7. Slide booster push rod off of pedal, then remove nuts attaching booster mounting studs to dash panel and pedal mounting bracket.
8. Remove booster from engine compartment.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque booster mounting stud nuts and master cylinder mounting nuts to 16-18 ft. lbs.
b. Torque brake line fittings to 12-16 ft. lbs.
c. Fill and bleed brake system.
