Mis-assembled Diesel Exhaust Fluid Engine Coolant Control Valve
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) engine coolant control valve assembly. Some of the involved vehicles may also require
draining and adding DEF.

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with the 6.7L Cummins Diesel engine (Sales Code ETJ) built between March 3, 2010 (MDH 0303XX) and
July 19, 2010 (MDH 0719XX).
DISCUSSION:
Some Ram Trucks may have been built with a DEF engine coolant control valve that may be internally mis-assembled which may not be able to
completely shut the flow of coolant passing through the coolant tubes in the DEF tank allowing the DEF temperature to rise above its normal operating
range. DEF that has been exposed to elevated temperatures can cause the DEF to degrade.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
All applicable vehicles (sold and unsold) require the replacement of the DEF engine coolant control valve and hose assembly. If the vehicle has been
driven with a mis-assembled DEF coolant control valve that allowed the coolant to flow through the coolant tubes in the DEF tank, the DEF may have
degraded causing the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to illuminate. Upon further investigation, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P205B may be
found in the Powertrain Control Module's (PCM) memory as either active or stored.
DIAGNOSIS:
Perform the following repair procedure for all affected vehicles. In addition, if the vehicle is a sold vehicle, verify DEF level using the information
provided in the vehicles Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC). Record this value for later use. Then, using a Scan Tool (wiTECH ) with the
appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT verify the presence of DTC P205B is either stored or active in the PCM's memory. If
DTC's other then P205B are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary after performing the following repair procedure. Proceed to
the Repair Procedure.
