If fuel injection pump is found to be defective, it should be replaced.
REMOVAL
1.
Remove timing belt cover upper cover, then remove nut and washer attaching injection pump sprocket. Use care not to allow nut and washer to
drop into lower cover.
2.
Rotate crankshaft to bring No. 1 cylinder TDC compression stroke, aligning timing marks, Fig. 37.
3.
Using a suitable puller, detach sprocket from pump driveshaft. Do not remove sprocket, but position in timing belt lower cover with timing belt
attached. When disengaging sprocket from pump shaft use care not to damage timing belt. After sprocket has been removed from pump
shaft, do not rotate crankshaft.
4.
Disconnect coolant hoses from wax element, then position hose high enough to prevent coolant from draining from cylinder head.
5.
Disconnect boost compensator hose from fuel injection pump.
6.
Disconnect fuel injection lines at pump.
7.
Remove injection pump support bracket attaching bolts, then remove injection pump mounting nuts and lift pump assembly from engine.

INSTALLATION
1.
Check to ensure that camshaft sprocket and crankshaft pulley timing marks are aligned, Fig. 37.
2.
Lift injection pump sprocket upward with timing belt attached, then position injection pump on engine and insert pump driveshaft into sprocket
tapered hole. When installing injection pump driveshaft to pump sprocket, ensure that shaft key is properly positioned.
3.
Tighten the two injection pump mounting bolts and nuts, then tighten nut attaching pump sprocket to pump.
4.
Install injection lines on injection pump and torque to 17-26 ft. lbs.
5.
Adjust timing belt as described in Engine Section under ``Timing Belt, Replace.''
6.
Adjust injection pump timing to 2° ATDC at .039 inch plunger stroke, then bleed fuel system.
