Fuel Injector: Testing and Inspection
Fuel Injector Test
Injector Locations
To test the Injectors, located between the fuel rail and the intake manifold, proceed as follows.
Injector Audio Test
AUDIO PERFORMANCE TEST:
Using a stethoscope, check the operational sound (click) made by the injectors (one at a time) during idle or cranking. Check that the sound is produced
at shorter intervals as the engine speed increases.
NOTE: Other injectors may produce sound as they operate even if the injector being checked does not operate. Ensure that the sound heard is not from
an adjacent injector transmitted along the delivery pipe to an inoperative injector.
Injector Resistance Test
RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT BETWEEN TERMINALS:
1.
Disconnect the connector for the injector.
2.
Measure the resistance between the terminals.
Resistance:
13-16 ohms at 20°C (68°F)
3.
If the injector has a resistance outside of the acceptable range replace the injector.
NOTE: If an injector fails to click during the audio performance test and passes the terminal resistance test, it is not receiving a signal. Check the
associated wiring between this injector and the Electronic Control Unit (ECU).
