Ball Stud: Service and Repair
RWD Models
1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove brake caliper assembly and support aside.
3. Remove hub bearing cap, cotter key, slotted nut, washer and outer bearing.
4. Remove front hub and rotor assembly.
5. Remove brake rotor splash shield.
6. Remove upper and lower ball joint key and nut.
7. Separate tie rod form knuckle.
8. Remove shock absorber assembly.
9. Disconnect stabilizer bar.
10. Compress coil spring using suitable spring compressor tool.
11. Disconnect upper and lower ball joints from knuckle, using knuckle arm puller tool No. C-3564-A, or equivalent.
12. Remove knuckle from vehicle.
13. Reverse procedure to install, adjusting wheel bearing as outlined under FRONT SUSPENSION/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND
REPAIR PROCEDURES/AXLE HUB & FREE WHEELING HUB.
