Carrier Bearings: Adjustments
Front Drive Axle

1.

Press side bearing inner race onto differential unit using tool No. MB990802 or equivalent.

2.

Install side bearing adjusting shims at each side of differential, then position differential into differential carrier.

3.

Push differential carrier to one side and measure clearance between side bearing shim and differential carrier.

4.

Measure thickness of side bearing shims that were used when measuring clearance between side bearing shims and differential carrier.

5.

Select two pairs of shims with a thickness equal to those used during clearance measurement, plus 1/2 the clearance measurement, plus 0.002 inch.

6.

Install one pair of side bearing adjusting shims to each side of differential, and ensure there is no clearance between shim and carrier.
