V5MT1 SERIES TRANSMISSION (4WD)

This procedure involves removing the transmission, and installing a synchronizer kit.

1.

Remove and disassemble the transmission as outlined in the appropriate service manual.

2.

Install the 1st, 2nd Synchronizer Kit. For 1989 model year vehicles use kit PN ME581052. For 1990 model year vehicles use kit PN ME581051.

3.

Assemble and install the transmission.

4.

Add the Friction Modifier supplied in the kit.

5.

Fill the transmission with the 75W/90 gear oil PN 4549624 to the bottom of the fill hole.

6.

Install the fill plug and tighten to 25 ft.lbs. (35 N-m) torque.

7.

Apply a dab of white touch-up paint on the transmission case just above the fill plug.
