Throttle Body: Service and Repair
Air Cleaner And Throttle Body
Warning: The fuel system is under constant pressure of 39 psi (270 kPa), even when the engine is OFF. Always release fuel pressure before
servicing any fuel system component.
Removal
1.
Release fuel system pressure.
2.
Remove air cleaner and disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect vacuum hoses and electrical connectors from throttle body.
3.
Remove throttle cable, speed control, transmission kickdown cables, and throttle return spring.
4.
Loosen fuel tube clamp on valve cover.
5.
Clean the quick connect fittings. Remove fuel intake and return tubes. (Place a shop towel under the connections to absorb any fuel spilled.)
6.
Remove throttle body mounting screws, and lift throttle body from intake manifold. Clean old gasket from manifold.
Installation
1.
Install throttle body with new gasket and torque mounting nuts to 20 Nm (175 lb-in).
2.
Lubricate the ends of the fuel supply and return tubes with 30 weight oil. Connect fuel lines to quick connect fittings. Pull on the tubes to ensure
that they are fully inserted and locked into position.
3.
Tighten the fuel tube clamp on the valve cover.
4.
Install return spring, throttle cable, speed control and kickdown cables.
5.
Install wiring connectors, vacuum hoses, and air cleaner.
6.
Connect negative battery cable.
7.
Using scan tool, place ignition switch in "RUN" position and use Actuate Output Test "Auto Shutdown (ASD) Relay", to activate fuel pump,
pressurize system, and check for leaks.
