Throttle Body: Service and Repair
Throttle Body Replacement

REMOVAL

WARNING:  The fuel system is under constant pressure, of approximately 39 psi (270 kPa), even when the engine is OFF. Always release fuel
pressure before servicing any fuel system component. 

CAUTIONS:

Always assemble throttle body using new O-rings and seals.

Never use silicone lubricants on O-rings or seals, as damage may result. 

^

Use care when removing fuel tubes to prevent damage to quick connect fittings or tube ends. 

Throttle Body Removal And Replacement

1. Fuel system pressure release must be performed prior to service.  See: Fuel Filter/Fuel Pressure Release/Service and Repair
2. Disconnect negative battery cable, and remove air cleaner hose clamp to throttle body. Remove air cleaner to throttle body hose.
3. Remove throttle cable and transaxle linkage. 
4. Disconnect the following electrical connectors:

Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

-

Idle Air Control (IAC) motor

5. Disconnect the vacuum lines from the throttle body.
6. Remove throttle body mounting bolts (2), Remove engine harness wiring bracket, and lift throttle body off of intake plenum.
7. Discard old gasket.

 
INSTALLATION

1. Clean mounting surfaces.
2. Using a new gasket, install throttle body on intake manifold, and torque the mounting bolts to 225 in-lbs (25.4 Nm).
3. Connect the throttle body vacuum hoses.
4. Connect the following electrical connectors:

-

Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

-

Idle Air Control (IAC) motor

5. Attach throttle cable. 
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
7. Using scan tool [1], activate fuel pump and pressurize system.
8. Check for leaks.
9. Install the air cleaner to throttle body hose.
