Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair
Shock Absorber Replacement
Rear
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Support axle assembly, then remove wheel and tire assemblies.
3. Disconnect electrical connector from upper strut rod by pinching the two latching arms, then pulling connector straight off of rod end.
CAUTION: Do not rotate connector.
4. Remove mounting bolts, then the shock absorber.
5. Reverse procedure to install.
Rear Shock Absorber & Coil Spring Replacement

REMOVAL
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Support axle assembly and remove wheel and tire assemblies.
3. On models with air shocks, disconnect air lines. On all models, remove both upper and lower shock absorber attaching bolts, then the shock
absorbers.
4. On models equipped with automatic load leveling system, remove link from track bar to sensor.
5. On all models, lower axle assembly until spring and spring upper isolator can be removed.
INSTALLATION
1. Position jounce bumper to rail, install and torque attaching screws to 70 lb-in.
2. Install isolator over jounce bumper and install spring.
3. Raise axle and install shock absorbers. Loosely assemble lower shock absorber attaching bolts and torque upper attaching bolts to specifications.
On models with load leveling system, attach link to track bar.
4. With suspension supporting vehicle, torque shock absorber lower attaching screws to specifications.
