SUBJECT:
Intermittent or Inoperative Switches
MODELS:
1992 - 1995 (AA) Acclaim/LeBaron Sedan/Spirit
1992 - 1995 (AJ) LeBaron Coupe/LeBaron Convertible
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Intermittent operation of the following accessories caused by intermittent or inoperative switches.
1.
The right front power window lift using the right door power window switch.
2.
The power convertible top switch.
DIAGNOSIS:
Gain access to the affected switch as outlined in the appropriate section of the appropriate Service Manual, and inspect the connector-to-switch
engagement. If the connector does not latch on the switch on one side or the other, or the connector can be pulled off without pulling up on the connector
retaining latches, or if the connector to switch engagement is loose, proceed to the repair procedure. See Illustration. If the switch and connector do not
exhibit these conditions, further diagnosis and repair of the affected system will be necessary.
PARTS REQUIRED:
AR 4798911 Switch Package, Window Lift, Right Front (AA Body)
AR 4798910 Switch Package, Window Lift, Right Front (AJ Body)
AR 4798909 Switch Package, Power Convertible Top (AJ Body)
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing the affected switch with a switch package containing a switch, a tan colored connector and a blue connector wedge.
1.
Remove the affected switch as outlined in the appropriate section of the appropriate Service Manual.
2.
If the existing connector is tan in color, the new connector will not be required unless it is damaged. The connector and blue wedge in the switch
package may be discarded. Proceed to Step 4.
3.
Replace the old connector with the new tan colored connector included in the appropriate parts package. First, remove the wedge and then with a
small flat blade screw driver, release each terminal from its cavity. Install the terminal into the new connector in the same corresponding cavity.
When all terminals are installed, insert the new blue connector wedge.
4.
Engage the connector on the new switch. Install the new switch in the vehicle.
