Condenser Fan: Description and Operation
Plumbing - Front
Description
DESCRIPTION
All models equipped with A/C use electric cooling fans to help remove heat from the A/C system, especially during idle conditions. Without condenser
cooling fans, A/C high side pressures would increase and A/C system performance would eventually deteriorate.
The A/C condenser fans consist of two plastic fan blade assemblies (2) which are driven by 12-volt direct current (DC) motors (4). The A/C condenser
fans are mounted within a plastic shroud (3) with an integral wire harness connector (5) and four mounting provisions with rubber grommets (1). The
A/C condenser fan assembly is located in front of the A/C condenser and the radiator, at the front of the engine compartment.
Operation
OPERATION
The A/C condenser fans are controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM) or engine control module (ECM) (depending on engine application).
When the A/C-heater control is set to any A/C position a request signal is sent to the PCM/ECM, which energizes the A/C condenser fan relay which
provides battery current to the condenser fan motors.
The A/C condenser fan control system is diagnosed using a scan tool.
The components of the A/C condenser fan assembly cannot be adjusted or repaired and must be replaced if inoperative or damaged.
