Further up in the tube (9) but not directly in the air flow, another sensor measures the pressure of the boosted air (7).

The final rubber hose (8) channels the air to the intake manifold (6).

Also included in the system is a sensor that measures atmospheric pressure which is integrated into the engine controller (5).

The ambient temperature (13), is used for the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system only. The ambient temperature sensor
is located under the front license plate holder.

There are 7 sensors total; 3 for pressure, 1 for mass air flow, 2 for engine temperature, and 1 for ambient temperature (for HVAC operation only)
(Fig. 1).
NOMENCLATURE:
The nomenclature describing the components of the Sprinter Engine Air Intake System is not consistent throughout various systems. The following table
clarifies sensor functions and descriptions, including Labor Operations, Part Numbers and nomenclature for diagnostics and parts specification. The
numbers in the very left column of the table correlate to Air Intake System diagram (Fig. 1).
DIAGNOSIS
1.
Open the hood, install a battery charger and verify that the charging rate provides approximately 13.5 volts.
NOTE:
Engine oil overfilling creates too much oil mist in the air intake system coming through the crankcase ventilation hose. This may influence or harm
several air intake sensors. Please check the oil level with the engine and the oil at normal operating temperature (unless it is a cold engine dip-stick
marked by a yellow handle on the engine oil dip-stick) and adjust if necessary.
