Auxiliary Heater Element: Service and Repair

Removal
REMOVAL

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the engine cooling system See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Cooling System/Service and Repair.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
4. Disconnect the two wire harness connectors (1) from the auxiliary heat exchanger (4) located on the left side of the vehicle underbody.
5. Loosen the hose clamps (2) and using a twisting motion, remove both heater hoses from the auxiliary heat exchanger.
6. Remove the bolts and washers (3) that secure the auxiliary heat exchanger to the vehicle underbody and remove the heat exchanger.
Installation
INSTALLATION
1. Position the auxiliary heat exchanger (4) to the vehicle underbody and install the retaining bolts and washers (3). Tighten the bolts to 4 Nm (35 in.
lbs.).
2. Install both heater hoses onto the auxiliary heat exchanger using a twisting motion. Tighten the hose clamps (2) securely.
3. Connect the two wire harness connectors (1) to the auxiliary heat exchanger.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
6. Refill the engine cooling system See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Cooling System/Service and Repair.
