Description
DESCRIPTION
The rear condenser fan unit (1) for the optional rear A/C system is located on top of the vehicle behind the rear evaporator housing. Electric condenser
cooling fans are used to help remove heat from the rear A/C system, especially during idle conditions. Without cooling fans, A/C system high side
pressures would increase and A/C system performance would eventually deteriorate.
The rear condenser fan unit consist of two plastic fan blade assemblies (2) which are driven by 12-volt direct current (DC) motors (3) through two 25
amp fuses (4). The A/C condenser fans are mounted within a plastic shroud with six mounting provisions (5) and two wire harness connectors (6).
Operation
OPERATION
The condenser fans for the option rear A/C system are controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM) or engine control module (ECM) (depending
on engine application). When the rear A/C controls are turned on, a request signal is sent to the PCM/ECM, which energizes the rear condenser fan relay.
The rear condenser fan relay then provides battery current to the two rear condenser fan motors through two 25 amp fuses.
The rear A/C condenser fan control system is diagnosed using a scan tool.
The components of the rear condenser fan unit cannot be adjusted or repaired and must be replaced if inoperative or damaged.
