Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

The wire and connector which are permanently attached to the Oxygen Sensors should not be removed, cut, or damaged. Vehicle performance and
operation are dependant upon the voltage signal being sent to the MPI Control Unit from the O2 Sensors.

NOTE:  The Oxygen Sensors are NOT interchangeable and should not be removed at the same time when being serviced or replaced. This will ensure
that the Oxygen Sensors do not get switched. 

1.

Disconnect electrical connector from oxygen sensor. 
DO NOT cut the electrical wire(s) if the sensor is going to be reinstalled for use. 

CAUTION:  The Oxygen Sensor may be difficult to remove when engine temperature is below 120~F. Do NOT use excessive force. Damage to
the threads or the sensor may result.

Using a suitable wrench or socket assembly, remove one sensor.  

3.

If a new sensor is being used, install the new sensor into the manifold or pipe.

4.

If an old sensor is being reused, coat the sensor threads with anti-seize compound, then install the sensor into the manifold or pipe.

5.

Torque the Oxygen Sensor to 33 ft.lbs. (45 N-m).

6.

Reconnect the electrical connector, and verify that the sensor is functioning normally.
