Power Steering Bleeding: Service and Repair
Front Power Steering Hydraulic System Bleeding
During bleeding procedure, keep fluid in reservoir at proper level.
1. Raise and support front of vehicle.
2. Manually rotate oil pump pulley several times.
3. Turn steering wheel from stop to stop five or six times.
4. Disconnect high tension cable then operate starter motor intermittently while turning the steering wheel from stop to stop five or six times.
5. Connect high tension cable and start engine.
6. Turn steering wheel from stop to stop until no bubbles appear in reservoir.
7. Ensure fluid is not milky and is at proper level.
8. Confirm there is little or no change in fluid level when steering wheel is turned from stop to stop.
9. Ensure fluid level with engine stopped is within 0.2 inch of level measured with engine running.
10. If fluid level is not as specified, the system is not completely bled; repeat procedure as necessary.
