Wheel Cylinder: Service and Repair
Wheel Cylinder Removal and Installation
REMOVE
With brake drums removed, inspect the wheel cylinder boots for evidence of a brake fluid leak. Visually check the boots for cuts, tears, or heat
cracks. If any of these conditions exist, the wheel cylinders should be completely cleaned, inspected and new parts installed.

In case of a leak, remove brake shoes (replace if soaked with grease or brake fluid.)
2.
Disconnect rear brake flex hose tube from wheel cylinder and remove the flex hose routing bracket from the brake support plate.
3.
Remove rear wheel cylinder attaching bolts. Then pull wheel cylinder assembly off brake support plate.
INSTALL
1. Apply a small bead of silicone sealer around the mating surface of the wheel cylinder to brake support plate.
2. Install wheel cylinder onto brake support plate. Tighten the attaching bolts to a torque of 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.).
3. Hand start hydraulic brake hose tube fitting to wheel cylinder. Tighten the tube nut to a torque of 17 Nm (145 in. lbs.).
4. Install brake shoes on support plate. Refer to Service and Repair Installation.
5. Install rear brake drum onto rear hub.
6. Install the wheel and tire assembly. Tighten the wheel mounting stud nuts in proper sequence until all nuts are torqued to half specification. Then
repeat the tightening sequence to the full specified torque of 109 - 150 Nm (80 - 110 ft. lbs.).
7. Bleed the entire brake system.
8. Adjust the rear brakes.
