Housing Assembly HVAC: Service and Repair
Evaporator Housing Removal and Installation
1. Using an approved A/C recovery/recycling unit, discharge and recover refrigerant from A/C system.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove air cleaner hose and air distribution duct from the engine.
4. Drain engine coolant into a suitable container. Refer to: "Engine, Cooling and Exhaust : Cooling System : Service and Repair" See: Engine,

5. Disconnect heater hoses at dash panel, then plug the heater core inlet and outlet tubes.
6. Remove both A/C lines from expansion valve using special disconnect tool No. 7193, or equivalent, to disconnect connectors on A/C lines.
7. Cap expansion valve openings and the A/C hose openings to prevent dirt or moisture from entering refrigerant system during servicing.
8. Remove trim bezel around radio and climate control module.
9. Remove cluster hood bezel retaining screws in the trim bezel opening.
10. Pry up cluster hood bezel a few inches to expose the cubby bin bezel and wiring.
11. Remove cubby bin bezel and wiring.
12. Remove control module retaining screws.
13. Drop the A/C control module into cubby bin bezel opening, then disconnect wiring on rear of control module.
14. Release cable clips from top of control module. Retain clips for installation.
15. Disconnect temperature control and recirculation control cables.
16. Remove control module.
17. Remove upper instrument panel bezel. Refer to: "Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators : Instrument Panel : Service and

18. Remove right and left instrument panel end caps.
19. Remove left lower knee bolster. Disconnect mode door motor wiring.
20. Remove right and left interior door post kick panels.
21. Remove front and rear halves of floor console.
22. Remove radio as outlined under "Radio, Replace".
23. Remove right side lower silencer/duct.
24. Remove glove compartment assembly.
25. Remove right side vertical support strut brace.
26. Remove left side vertical support strut brace.
27. Remove center lower distribution housing.
28. Remove bolts securing heater-A/C housing to instrument panel metal frame.
29. Remove upper instrument panel cowl trim cover.
30. Disconnect steering column from instrument panel. Lower steering column.
31. Remove instrument panel bolts at cowl fence.
32. Remove bolts at lower A-posts.
33. Remove instrument frame and wiring.
34. Remove bolts securing Heater-A/C housing to cowl.
35. Reverse procedure to install. Verify cables are properly adjusted and control module is seated properly.
