A/C - Does Not Blow Cold Enough Air

SUBJECT:
Poor A/C Performance
MODELS:
1995 (JA) Cirrus/Stratus
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Air conditioning does not blow cold enough air.
DIAGNOSIS:
If any of the following diagnostic steps indicate a problem, perform the repair procedure.
1.
Monitor pressure transducer output on the Scan Tool (DRBIII) while wiggling the three wires at the pressure transducer electrical connector to see
if output changes.
2.
Use DRB III to check for Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) high pressure fault 5A, low pressure fault SB, or
check engine lamp flash code 33 (system may fail without setting a DTC).
3.
Perform A/C system charge level procedure, to determine if refrigerant charge level is low.
4.
Check for tight wires (tension) between the pressure transducer and wire harness.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing the A/C pressure transducer and connector with revised parts.
1.
Record the preset radio stations. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2.
Disconnect the wire harness connector from the A/C pressure transducer.
3.
Remove the transducer with a counterclockwise rotation using a 3/4 in. open end wrench.
NOTE:
A SLIGHT RELEASE OF PRESSURE TRAPPED IN THE FITTING MAY BE EXPERIENCED. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO DISCHARGE
THE REFRIGERANT SYSTEM.
4.
Install the new transducer, P/N 4798874, and torque to 6 Nm (50 in. lbs.) using new 0-ring provided.
5.
Cut the wires from the back of the existing connector.
6.
Remove 1 inch of insulation from both wires on the harness side and new terminal assembly, P/N 4728323.
NOTE:
CONNECTOR, PIN 4728323, CONTAINS 3 CRIMP CONNECTORS AND INSTRUCTION SHEET IN ADDITION TO THE CONNECTOR.
DISCARD THE 3 CRIMP CONNECTORS AND INSTRUCTION SHEET.
7.
Place one heat shrink tube over each wire.
8.
Spread the strands of the conductor apart on each part of the exposed wires.
9.
Push the two ends of the wire together until the strands of the conductor are close to the insulation.
