Wheel Balance Information

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin explains the proper technique to balance 16" or 17" aluminum/steel wheels.

DISCUSSION:
Correct wheel balance depends on mounting the wheel to the balancing equipment accurately. The 16" and 17" wheels used on this vehicle (aluminum or
steel) should be mounted to the balancing equipment with the mounting cone piloted from the rear (back mounted). By back mounting, the same rotating
axis will be used as when the wheels are mounted on the vehicle. Balancing the wheels without the correct cone can result in an unbalanced condition
which can lead to customer dissatisfaction or other unnecessary repairs.

The cones referenced in this Technical Service Bulletin are from Hunter Engineering. The Hunter cones have a 40 mm hole and can be used on other
equipment that uses a 40 mm shaft. Equivalent cones from other manufacturers may be used as long as the fit and mounting procedures are adhered to.
The following information illustrates the proper way to mount these wheels.

NOTE:

STEEL WHEELS MUST BE BACK MOUNTED BECAUSE THE REAR BORE DIMENSION IS MACHINED.

Insertion of the mounting cone from the rear (Back Mounting) is the preferred method to balance these wheels. Use Hunter cone p/n 192-53-2 or
equivalent to properly align the wheel on the balancing equipment. Refer to (Fig. 1). for proper cone placement and configuration.

THE CONE MUST CONTACT EVENLY AROUND THE OPENING AS SHOWN.
