The 4 cylinder crankshaft sensor is located on the rear of the engine near the accessory drive belt. The 2.7L crankshaft sensor is located on the rear of the
transmission housing, above the differential housing. The bottom of the sensor is positioned next to the drive plate.
The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor is a Hall-effect sensor. The PCM sends approximately 8 volts to the Hall-effect sensor for the SBEC vehicles and
5 volts for the NGC vehicles. This voltage is required to operate the Hall-effect chip and the electronics inside the sensor. A ground for the sensor is
provided through the sensor return circuit of the PCM. The input to the PCM occurs on a 5 volt output reference circuit.
