Audible Warning Device: Description and Operation
INTRODUCTION
The seat belt warning system uses both visual and audible signals. A combined seat belt and key warning chime with a red light is located in the
message center.
The system will always illuminate the seat belt warning lamp for four to eight seconds when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position. Also,
if the driver and passenger seat belt are not buckled, the chime will sound during the same time interval. The chime module is used to operate the
system for the time period. It consists of a time delay mechanism and buzzer assembly.
The chime sounds for three warning/reminder conditions; headlamps left on, key left in ignition and fasten seat belt.
SYSTEM OPERATION
DOOR LATCH/PASSIVE RESTRAINT MECHANISM
The door latch serves a dual function. It has internal switches which work with the security alarm system and the passive restraint system. The
chime system also uses the signal to show when the door is open. If there is a failure in either switch, and it effects either system, the complete
door latch/passive restraint mechanism will need to be replaced.
