15. Using a screw driver or other suitable tool, pry the seal boot off of the ball joint.
16. Install NEW ball joint sealing boot on ball joint. Install sealing boot as far as possible on the ball joint assembly.
17. Position Receiving Cup, Special Tool MB990891, or equivalent over sealing boot aligning it properly with bottom edge of sealing boot. Apply
pressure BY HAND, until sealing boot is pressed squarely against lower control arm.
18. Install the upper ball joint stud into the steering knuckle. Install the upper ball joint stud, to knuckle attaching nut. Tighten the ball joint stud castle
nut to a torque of 142 Nm (105 ft. lbs.). Install the castle nut retaining cotter pin.
19. Install the driveshaft yoke into the rear hub/ bearing.
20. Install the washer and nut mounting the yoke to the rear hub/bearing. TIGHTEN BUT DO NOT TORQUE MOUNTING NUT AT THIS TIME.
CAUTION: The bolts attaching the drive shaft universal joint clamps to the differential and yoke are not reusable. They must be replaced with
new bolts. If new bolts can not be obtained, the removed bolts can be cleaned and have new Loctite applied and used as a substitute for new bolts.
21. Install the driveshaft back in the vehicle.
22. Install the shock absorber. Do not tighten the shock absorber upper or lower mounting bolt at this time.
23. Install the wheel and tire. Tighten the wheel mounting stud nuts in proper sequence until all nuts are torqued to half specification. Then repeat the
tightening sequence to the full specified torque of 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.).
24. Lower the vehicle to the ground so the full weight of the vehicle is supported by the tires.
25. Apply the parking brake to keep vehicle from moving when torquing the hub/bearing to yoke mounting nut.
