Fuel Supply Line: Service and Repair
Fuel Tank
REMOVAL
1.
Disconnect the battery ground cable. Remove the fuel tank filler cap before disconnecting any fuel or vent lines, since the tank will be under a
small amount of pressure.
2.
Pump or drain all of the fuel from the tank into an appropriate holding tank or marked container, identified as GASOLINE.
3.
Raise the vehicle on a hoist, and disconnect all vent, and filler hoses. Place a suitable jack centrally under the tank and apply a slight upward
pressure.
4.
Remove the retainers from the outboard ends of the tank straps, and lower the fuel tank enough to allow the gauge wire and fuel lines to be
disconnected from the gauge unit on the top of the tank. Then lower the tank the rest of the way and remove it from under the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1.
Place the fuel tank on top of the jack and raise it high enough under the vehicle to connect the fuel gauge sending unit wires, and the fuel lines.
2.
Raise the fuel tank the rest of the way into position, and connect the two retainer straps. Tighten retainer strap fasteners securely, then lower and
remove the jack. Reconnect all vent, vacuum, and filler neck hoses.
3.
Refill the fuel tank, and check all hoses and connections for leaks. Connect the battery negative cable, START and run the engine, and check for
