Rocker Arm Assembly: Service and Repair
When disassembling rocker arms, place all parts on the workbench in their proper sequence to ensure correct assembly.
Clean all sludge and gum formation from the inside and outside of the shafts. Clean oil holes and passages in the rocker arms and shafts. Inspect the
shafts for wear.

Stamped steel rocker arms are arranged on a single rocker arm shaft, Fig. 7. Hardened steel spacers are used between the pairs of rocker arms. The
rocker shaft is held in place by bolts and stamped steel retainers attached to the seven brackets on the cylinder head.
Install rocker assembly to cylinder head in the following order:
1. Rocker arms and shaft assembly should be installed so the oil hole is positioned as shown in Fig. 7.
2. Install rocker shaft retainers between rocker arms. Ensure long retainer is installed in center position only.
3. Install rocker shaft bolts, then the special bolt at rear of engine. Torque to specifications.
4. Inspect cylinder head cover gasket flange for scratches or distortion, straighten if necessary.
5. Install new cylinder head cover gasket, then the cylinder head cover.
6. Install closed ventilation system and evaporation control system.
