THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 3.9 LITER ENGINE AND 3-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (A999).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Vehicles experience low fuel economy, particularly at highway speeds. This condition may be caused by the engine controller not allowing the lock-up
torque converter to engage.
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect the SBEC (Single Board Engine Controller). If the SBEC PN is 53008929, the following repair procedure should be followed.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This repair involves replacement of the engine controller.
1.
With the ignition key in the OFF position, disconnect the negative battery cable.
2.
Replace the original SBEC with the new SBEC, PN 53008912.
