This notification applies only to 1989 model year Dodge Trucks equipped with the 5.9L Cummins 6 cylinder diesel engine -- D250, D350, W250
and
W350 models.

Owners of involved vehicles will receive trailer towing instructions to avoid engine overheating under extreme trailer towing conditions.

Dealer service is required for installation of a resistor assembly to the temperature sensor circuit to correct for gauge reading error (gauge reads
high).

When servicing stock vehicles, put one of the trailer towing instructions cards in the glove box.

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION TRAILER TOWING -- ENGINE COOLING
Dear Dodge Truck Owner:
The satisfaction of our customers is very important to Chrysler. Because of this, special information concerning trailer towing is being sent at this time to
owners of 1989 model year Dodge Trucks equipped with the 5.9L 6 cylinder Cummins diesel engine. The information includes details of a special free
service and important trailer towing instructions.
Your truck, whose Vehicle Identification Number is shown on the enclosed form, is one of the affected vehicles. Therefore, we ask that you take action
without delay on the following requirements:

Service is required to correct the engine temperature gauge reading. The present gauge may read too high, indicating overheating while the
engine is operating within the allowable temperature range. This service and the required parts will be provided free of charge.
Please contact your dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment for the free service. We ask that you contact your selling dealer.
However, if necessary, the service can be performed by any Dodge or Chrysler-Plymouth dealer.
Your dealer will install a resistor in the engine temperature sensor circuit to correct the gauge reading. The service will take about 1/2 hour to
complete. However, additional time may be required depending on scheduling and processing of your vehicle.
Take the enclosed Owner Recall Notification Form with you at the time of your appointment and give it to your dealer. The form identifies the
vehicle and recall for which service is required.

In addition to the above service, please follow these important instructions for trailer towing:
To prevent overheating, it may be necessary to turn off air conditioning, reduce vehicle speed and manually downshift the transmission to a
lower gear when operating under extreme conditions such as towing up long steep grades with heavy loads in hot weather.
For your convenience, a card printed with these instructions is enclosed with this letter. Please place it in a convenient location or with your
vehicle Operator's Manual as a ready reference for you or others who may drive the truck.
If you have any problem obtaining the required service, please contact the Chrysler Zone Service Office in your area. (It is listed under "Service
Assistance" in your Operator's Manual.) A Zone representative will arrange for prompt servicing of your vehicle.
We regret any inconvenience that this action may cause you. However, we believe that these special provisions will help to ensure your continuing
satisfaction with your Dodge truck.
